CPAA Theatres celebrated the 16th anniversary of its founding on May 9 with a series of cultural events across its online platforms and theaters nationwide. The celebrations highlighted the vitality of China's performing arts sector through theater productions, exhibitions, and audience engagement programs.
One of the highlights was the annual Membership Day event, which offered more than 2,000 half-price tickets covering over 70 performances and 40 selected productions in 12 cities. Featured productions included the stage adaptation of Lu Yao's Ordinary World and the centenary edition of classic Italian opera Turandot, together with dramas, musicals, concerts, traditional opera, dance productions, and family performances. The ticket initiative brought more audiences into theaters and made live performances more accessible to the public.
Alongside the stage programs, CPAA Theatres launched an online photography and videography exhibition featuring works contributed by frontline theater staff from venues across the country. The exhibition presented scenes from both onstage and backstage, capturing the everyday moments behind theatrical productions and theater operations.
The anniversary year also saw the opening of new venues as CPAA Theatres further expanded its presence nationwide. CPAA Chengdu Grand Theatre and Zhanjiang Cultural Center officially opened on April 29 and May 5 respectively. The inaugural season at CPAA Chengdu Grand Theatre runs from April through September, presenting more than 60 performances across drama, opera, concerts, dance productions, and musicals.
What's more, CPAA Theatres launched the CPAA Opera Festival in collaboration with the Silk Road International League of Theatres, an international network spanning 48 countries and regions. Bringing together international productions and artists, the festival highlights CPAA Theatres' ongoing efforts to promote cultural exchange through opera and classical music.
Moving forward, it will continue introducing high-quality productions from China and abroad, supporting original works and youth arts education, and strengthening international cultural exchange through the performing arts.
