On May 5, 2026, the launch ceremony of the Zhanjiang Cultural Complex was held under the guidance of the China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG) and other relevant institutions, marking the official opening of the Zhanjiang Cultural Complex, which is operated by the CAEG's CPAA Theatres and a new milestone for the performing arts in Western Guangdong province.

As a key division of the CAEG, CPAA Theatres is a leading platform for theatre operations and the production and management of performing arts content.

The opening was celebrated with two sold-out performances of the acclaimed dance drama Wing Chun, a Shenzhen-original production that pays tribute to Lingnan's intangible cultural heritage. The work stands as a powerful inaugural statement, setting a new artistic benchmark for this cultural landmark in Western Guangdong.

In addition to the performances, the CAEG specially curated an exhibition of selections of modern Chinese art masterpieces to mark the venue's opening. More than an elegant display of treasured artworks along the South China Sea coast, the exhibition offers a profound journey into the lineage of China's modern and contemporary art.

The successful launch of the Zhanjiang Cultural Complex represents an innovative integration of culture and tourism in Zhanjiang during the opening year of the "15th Five-Year Plan" period (2026-30). Dubbed the "Dragon Soaring Over the Blue Sea", the venue rises along the southern coast, illuminating the harbor city's economy with the light of art and empowering urban development through the strength of culture.
