On April 20-26 Milan Design Week — the world's premier event for creativity and design — witnessed a landmark "China moment" as the country took center stage at the extravaganza.

At the heart of the display was the China-Italy Consortium — started by the China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG) — which is organizing a series of cultural exchange activities in Milan.

The events are place at Tortona 31-Opificio 31–TEXTILE-forte forte exhibition space, under the theme of Exploring Cultural Innovation in Chinese Context.

The focus is on such cutting-edge fields as modern lifestyles, fashion wear, technological innovation and sustainability.

Visitors can expect a curated selection of forward-looking projects that honor traditional Chinese culture, celebrate living aesthetics, and embrace future-oriented thinking.

The goal is to build bridges between China and Italy, foster deep dialogues between Chinese cultural heritage and Italian design and establish a globally influential "Chinese Culture + Design" presence at Milan Design Week.

The year 2025 marked the 55th anniversary of China-Italy diplomatic relations, and the two sides have already successfully launched a series of youth cultural innovation cooperation programs.

This year's Milan initiative represents a major step forward under that partnership — a comprehensive international cultural platform featuring art exhibitions, interactive dialogues and signing ceremonies. It's said to signal the beginning of a new, more institutionalized and brand-driven phase in Sino-Italian creative collaboration.

On-site activities include immersive digital experiences, live performances of intangible cultural heritage and special "campus events" for local students.

During the week, representatives from government, industry, academia and the arts in both countries come together to discuss shared topics  — including cultural co-creations, technological collaborations, industrial partnerships and sustainable development.

Milan Design Week 2026 is more than just a window for telling China's story to the world — it's also a showcase of how traditional Chinese culture can be creatively transformed and innovatively developed.

At the same time, it reflects a joint China-Italy effort to shape a globally recognized cultural and design brand — contributing fresh thinking and collaborative solutions towards building a shared future for humanity.20260423-1.jpeg
