ITA promotes global sharing of performing arts resources
At the conclusion of the third Silk Road International Theatre Alliance investment and cooperation fair held in late September, Rafael Pérez Malo, Vice Chairman of the Cuban Council of Performing Arts and representative of the National Theatre of Cuba, stated: "Arts institutions safeguard the shared spiritual heritage of humanity. They are vital platforms for nourishing people's hearts and fostering peace. With its open and inclusive global vision, the Silk Road International Theatre Alliance unites leading theatres, performing arts institutions, cultural enterprises and investment forces worldwide, shaping a new landscape for coordinated cultural industry development".
Initiated by the China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG) in 2016, the Silk Road International Theatre Alliance serves as a multilateral, international platform for the performing arts industry. Since its inception, it has deepened cultural connections with countries and regions along the Belt and Road, bringing people closer together.
Pérez Malo noted that in world faces numerous challenges, theatres act as sanctuaries for humanistic dialogue—like oases in the desert—offering spiritual sustenance. These artistic spaces respect cultural diversity while enriching people's cultural lives and enhancing social well-being through diverse performances.
"From ancient maritime trade to today's Belt and Road cooperation, ties between China and Indonesia have grown closer, with people-to-people exchange at the heart of this relationship," said Linda Ari Fatoni, President of the Indonesian Association of Theatre and Performance. “We believe cultural exchange is a two-way bridge. We welcome outstanding productions from around the world to our stages. Such exchanges expand the horizons of Indonesia's younger generation, deepen mutual understanding, and inspire greater appreciation for the world of art."
Currently, the Alliance includes 188 member institutions from 48 countries and regions, comprising 96 international members and 92 domestic members. This year, eight new members joined—three from overseas and five from China. The Alliance has successfully hosted six annual conferences, three investment and cooperation fairs, and four talent support programs, training more than 500 participants and establishing an initial framework for multidimensional, multi-tiered cultural exchange.
This year's investment and cooperation fair, themed "Silk Road arts · Bay Area resonance," lasted four days and featured an array of activities including a performing arts project investment fair, an international matchmaking session for key projects, and a "culture + technology" stage technology seminar. Through the platform of the Silk Road International Theatre Alliance, participants advanced cooperation in content development, digital empowerment, talent cultivation and resource coordination. Discussions focused on frontier topics such as digital innovation, immersive environment design and intelligent stage equipment, exploring how technological advances can enhance multi-sensory performance experiences, foster deeper integration of stagecraft with cultural tourism, and inspire new models for future theatre operations—ultimately promoting global sharing of performing arts resources.
