On Sep 26, the 2025 Chengdu-Chongqing Theatre Season—a key program of the 14th China Art Festival—was officially launched at the Chengdu Gaoxin China Arts and Entertainment Theatre. The event is guided by the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development. It is jointly organized by the People's Government of Pengzhou, China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd. (CAEG), Sichuan People's Art Theatre, Chongqing Repertory Theatre, and Beijing Shanheshuo International Media. This year's season brings together 31 acclaimed productions from China, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, and other countries, with a total of 84 performances. The program spans international showcases, a youth theatre competition, and cross-disciplinary events, staged across Chengdu, Chongqing, and Pengzhou, creating a dynamic, multi-city platform for collaboration and cultural exchange. CAEG plays a central role in the event.

As the main venue for the opening performance and international program, the Chengdu Gaoxin China Arts and Entertainment Theatre hosted the premiere of Jacques and His Master, a Sino-French co-production directed by Simon Mauclair of France's Compagnie Cornerstone and Chinese theatre artist Wang Jing. Over the following 18 days, the theatre will also present international highlights including Serenade for Alzheimer's, La Fontaine's Fables, and Seven, leveraging its national theatre network and operational expertise to inject fresh energy into the season.

This edition also emphasizes nurturing young theatre talent and exploring cross-boundary creativity. With Pengzhou's youth theatre performances, the Migrating Aliens international touring exhibition curated by Shen Yi and artist Fu Yuxiang, the Flamenco Red Dress Storm, and mountain concerts, the program connects with natural and cultural landmarks such as the Longmen Mountains and Bailu Franco-Chinese Town. The specially designed "Travel with Theatre" routes exemplify the integration of performing arts with cultural tourism, enabling mutual growth.

As an important initiative in promoting regional cultural cooperation, the 2025 Chengdu-Chongqing Theatre Season showcases the openness, inclusiveness, and vitality of the twin cities through international programming, youth creation support, and culture-tourism synergy.

Guo Liqun, General Manager of CAEG, noted that the Group will continue to introduce world-class theatre productions, offering audiences artistic experiences that transcend borders while contributing cultural momentum to the high-quality development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
