Intangible cultural heritage exhibition held in Langfang

The "World Latitude and Extraordinary Civilization: Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition" opened at Yunjin Plaza of the Silk Road International Arts Center in Langfang, a city of North China's Hebei province, on June 15.

The thematic exhibition was co-organized by Langfang Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Langfang Municipal People's Government and Bauhinia Culture Holdings Limited, and undertaken by the Administrative Committee of Langfang Economic and Technological Development Zone and China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG) under the support of Langfang Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau and Langfang Bureau of Commerce.

The special exhibition brought together nearly 300 exquisite artworks of intangible cultural heritage from home and abroad, showing their beauty and value through physical display, inheritance and experience, and cultural creative sales.




The entire exhibition consisted of four parallel sections, which were titled "Brilliant China: Eight Yanjing Wonders", "Silk Road Treasures: Artworks from the Belt and Road Countries," "Passing on from Generation to Generation: Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Activities," and "Appreciating Eight Yanjing Wonders: Exhibition and Sales of Intangible Cultural Heritage-related Cultural Creative Artworks."




The "Brilliant China: Eight Yanjing Wonders" section displayed nearly 200 Chinese intangible cultural heritage-related artworks with "Eight Yanjing Wonders" as the main representatives. They included masterpieces created by prominent domestic artists between 1950s and 1980s as well as those done by modern artists from Langfang.

Those exhibited artworks have been on display in other countries during foreign affairs events, showcasing the pinnacle of Chinese arts and crafts.



The "Silk Road Treasures: Artworks from the Belt and Road Countries" section collected over 100 handicrafts from 14 countries involved with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). They were recommended by foreign embassies in China and have attended such activities as "Foreign Cultural Day" and "Cultural Exchange Week".

Those displayed handicrafts have promoted the exchanges and integration between different countries and civilizations and witnessed the continuation and prosperity of human civilization.

The "Passing on from Generation to Generation: Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Activities" section featured an interaction and experience zone of intangible cultural heritage. It collected seven representative intangible cultural heritage-related projects from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, invited representative practitioners to give their demonstration classes, and distributed free material kits among visitors, enhancing public interest in the inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage and the cultivation of aesthetics as well as promoting the further development of relevant handicrafts and craftsmanship.

There was a comprehensive exhibition &sales zone in the "Appreciating Eight Yanjing Wonders: Exhibition and Sales of Intangible Cultural Heritage-related Cultural Creative Artworks" section. It exhibited cultural creative products affiliated with the "Eight Yanjing Wonders" and top 10 cultural tourism goods from Langfang, achieving customized production and on-site sales, expanding the exhibition scenarios of cultural tourism products and boosting relevant consumption.

Since its establishment in 1950, the China International Exhibition Agency(CIEA), a subsidiary of the CAEG, has collected over 10,000 artworks of intangible cultural heritage from home and abroad. The latest exhibition event in Langfang has showcased 273 artistic products from its collection along with the city's intangible cultural heritage ones. It is one of specific measures taken by the company to promote the integration between centrally-administered state-owned enterprises and regional governments and further consolidate their cooperation.

The exhibition event in Langfang have featured numerous significant intangible cultural heritage artifacts such as ivory carving, jade carving, coral carving and wood carving, which are known for their intricate handicrafts and historical context. They have allowed the public to grasp a deep understanding of national development and prosperity whilst admiring artistic works. The curatorial team has installed QR codes with audio guides for key exhibits, allowing visitors to explore the cultural significance behind relevant artworks.

According to organizers, the exhibition will run till Sept 15.
