Last Saturday, a Chinese electronic music group composed of electronic musicians Ma Haiping, Liu Yang, and new media artist Tang Yihu kicked off their 2024 tour in Panama city. The electronic music group, dispatched by China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd., consists of different musicians for each tour and has been conducting touring performances in several Latin American countries since 2016.

Ma Haiping, an electronic musician from Shanghai, said that this is his first time in Latin America, although he has been exposed to many Latin American electronic music works before. For this tour, he specially prepared two pieces, "Chang'e-4" and "Yutu," reflecting China's lunar exploration.

"Chang'e-4" lunar probe and the "Yutu-2" lunar rover embody the achievements of China's modern aerospace industry, which align well with his expertise in techno music style. "Foreign audiences may be more familiar with traditional Chinese music, but through my work, I want them to understand that China is not only rich in traditional culture but also innovative and pioneering electronic music," he said.

Liu Yang, a 25-year-old electronic musician from Hunan, believes that Latin American audiences place more emphasis on the rhythmic sense of music. Therefore, he carefully selected some high-energy, danceable tracks. He hopes that these industrial dance tracks from China can create a wonderful "chemical reaction" with the enthusiastic Latin American audience.

The host of the performance, Tony Sano, a DJ from Panama's music radio station "Crab Radio," expressed that this is his first collaboration with Chinese musicians. The performance brought a new music experience to the Panamanian audience and helped local young people better understand modern China.

Panamanian Minister of Culture, Maruja Herrera, in her speech before the performance, mentioned that the Panamanian people are not unfamiliar with Chinese traditional cultural activities such as dragon boat races and lion dances. However, this electronic music performance provided them with an excellent opportunity to understand the lifestyle of the young generation in China, serving as a precious opportunity to deepen friendship between the people of Panama and China.

Chinese Ambassador to Panama, Xu Xueyuan, stated in his address that the Chinese electronic music group brought a unique audiovisual experience to Panama, hoping that the Panamanian people could feel the joyful energy brought by modern Chinese electronic music.

According to the organizers, the Chinese electronic music group will continue their performances in provinces like Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui in Panama, then proceed to tour in countries such as El Salvador, Mexico, and will also participate in the 52nd edition of the Cervantino International Arts Festival in Mexico.
