On July 24, the large-scale dance drama "The 13 Women of Nanjing" premiered at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, marking the first appearance of this dance drama in Hong Kong. This performance is part of the "Chinese Culture Shines in Hong Kong" series of shows.

Directed by Lang Kun and scripted by Feng Shuangbai, this dance drama has received widespread acclaim during its mainland China tour, featuring outstanding dancers from national theater groups. The dance is adapted from a novel of the same name, depicting the touching story that unfolded between a group of female students and Qinhuai courtesans after the invasion of Nanjing by the Japanese army in 1937, commemorating history and paying tribute to the strength of women.

During the evening performance, the actors delivered exquisite performances, portraying well-rounded characters that deeply immersed the audience in the emotions and inner worlds of the characters. The show concluded with sustained applause from the audience, with the actors taking multiple bows.

"It touched my heart deeply. I shed tears three times during the performance," said Ms. Chen, a Hong Kong resident. She praised the emotional intensity of the dance drama, highlighting the rotating matrix and seamless scene transitions on stage that enhanced the audience's immersion. "Even without a single line of dialogue, one can feel the power of women."

Lang Kun, the overall director of the dance drama, mentioned that for this performance of the large-scale production in Hong Kong, the creative team made meticulous adjustments to better adapt to the Hong Kong stage. "Our goal is to make Hong Kong audiences, especially the youth, familiar with these stories and remember this period of history."

The large-scale dance drama, part of the "Chinese Culture Shines in Hong Kong" series, is co-hosted by Beijing Zhongyan Worldwide Art Production Co., Ltd. and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
