In 2024, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Ministry of Culture and Tourism organized the opening ceremony and cultural performance of the "China-DPRK Friendship Year" in Pyongyang on April 12. Following the conclusion of the opening ceremony, the China Art and Entertainment Group Ltd (CAEG) arranged for a special concert by the China National Traditional Orchestra, a national-level art troupe that had participated in the opening ceremony.

On April 13, Kim Jong-un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, came to the special concert at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre.

The event was attended by 1,800 people, including representatives from various sectors in Pyongyang, and foreign diplomats including ambassadors from Russia, Vietnam, and Mongolia to DPRK. Sun Yeli, minister of Culture and Tourism of China, and Ambassador to DPRK Wang Yajun also graced the event.

The national orchestral piece "Guofeng" (Chinese Style) opened the performance. The performance "Wufu Linmen" (five blessings) on the flower-drum lantern and big drum, a common folk music instrument in northern China, conveyed the best wishes to the DPRK people. The rendition of the classic DPRK song "Pyongyang, I Love You" expressed the boundless love of the DPRK people for their homeland. The national orchestral piece "Silk Road" played a symphony of ethnic integration and cultural harmony, while the erhu and orchestra concerto "Liang Zhu" conveyed the cherished emotions. Finally, with the rousing melody of the chorus "The Everlasting Friendship between China and DPRK," the performance came to a close.

At the end of the concert, on behalf of general secretary Kim Jong-un, a floral basket was presented on stage to congratulate the successful performance. Kim took the stage to individually shake hands with the main performers, highly praising the exquisite skills of the artists and taking a group photo with them.
