This was the first time the troupe had performed in Brazil, and the artists impressed local audiences with three wonderful performances.
"The troupe has brought a unique performance to Brazil,” said Li Jinsheng, chairman of the China Arts and Entertainment Group. “Performances by disabled actors always touch audiences deeply."
"The actors, including 20 dancers and six vocal and instrumental performers, have made meticulous preparations for the performances in Brazil and incorporated local musical elements on this South American tour. The show, My Dream, was created in 2000 and is a very mature work," Li added.
The performance showed the humanistic values of truth, kindness and beauty, as well as the unique and elegant cultural and artistic heritage. The songs When the Child is Born and We are the World performed by blind singers received the most positive responses from the audience.
The CDPPAT was established in 1987 and has visited more than 100 countries and regions. With over 100 actors, the long-established professional troupe is the only disabled art troupe in China. The actors have received professional performance training and are all very talented.
"Actors in the troupe have received strong support from the government and have had specialized training venues, schools and dormitories,” Li said.
China has 80 million disabled people. The members of the art troupe have been selected from different levels of society and are the best in the country. After retiring, they will become teachers to guide new performers.
CDPPAT has won many international awards, including the title of UNESCO Artist for Peace and the “image ambassador of 600 million disabled people around the world”.
In 2008, the troupe presented excellent performances at the Beijing Paralympic Games and the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games in South Korea. They are now preparing for another significant show on the world stage. Their new performance 2022 I Want to Fly will be staged at the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games.
