NYC's Empire State Building shone for Chinese New Year
A window display featuring pigs designed by the China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd. (CAEG) was launched on the first floor of the Empire State Building, Manhattan, New York, the United States, on Feb 1, 2019, to welcome the Year of the Pig according to the Chinese zodiac.
On the evening of Feb 4-5, during Chinese Lunar New Year and its eve, the skyscraper glowed with red, yellow, blue and white to stage a colorful annual festivity and pray for happiness, prosperity, seclusion and good luck.
The one-month-long exhibition features the image of pig and demonstrates traditional Chinese folk crafts, such as clay sculpture, paper cutting, sugar figures, and lanterns to bring blessings to everyone.
The Prism Clay Pig absorbs the essence of the Chinese intangible cultural heritage — zodiac images in Shaanxi Fengxiang’s clay sculpture, as well as art elements of stone carving, New Year pictures and embroidery.
The Sugar-molded Piggy draws inspiration from traditional folk handicraft of Beijing — sugar--figure blowing, and the sugar-figure tree made up of 60 piggy-shaped bronze mirrors can refresh Chinese’s sweet memory and add to the rich festive atmosphere of Lunar New Year. The Lens Lantern, with its brilliant color and novel form, is quite eye-catching in the exhibition hall.
