Theatre of Ayia Napa Municipality joins SRILT

On the afternoon of March 30, a signing ceremony for the participation of the Theatre of Ayia Napa Municipality in the Silk Road International League of Theatres (SRILT) was held in the experimental theatre of Guangzhou Opera House. Yiannis Karousos, mayor of Ayia Napa of Cyprus, and Zhang Li, general manager of CPAA Theatres Ltd of China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG), signed the agreement, accepting Theatre of Ayia Napa Municipality as the 87th member unit of the SRILT.

Guests attending the ceremony included Li Jinsheng, secretary of the Party committee of CAEG; Tu Hongzhe, deputy inspector of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangzhou municipal government; Zhu Hongbing, deputy inspector of the Department of Culture, Radio, Film, TV, Press and Publication of Guangzhou and members of a delegation from Ayia Napa.

The participation of Theatre of Ayia Napa Municipality in the SRILT will breathe new life into the league, promote the exchange of Chinese and Cypriote cultures and further deepen Cyprus cooperation and trade with countries along the Silk Road,” Party secretary Li Jinsheng said.

The SRILT is an international large multilateral platform for the entertainment industry. Approved by the Ministry of Culture of China and initiated by CAEG, the league aims to build a huge platform for international cultural exchange, cooperation and trade, realize inclusiveness and mutual learning of cultures, regardless of the peoples colors, languages or nationalities, and create a community of shared future for mankind. To date, the SRILT has 87 member units from 33 countries and regions and two international organizations.

Mayor Yiannis Karousos said that his visit to China for the 2018 Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference had achieved fruitful results, one of which was signing the agreement to join the SRILT. He believed that the act will surely enhance Sino-Cyprus cultural exchange and deepen Cyprus cooperation and communication with countries along the Silk Road.

Cyprus is located in the northeast of the Mediterranean and is a vital maritime communications hub connecting Asia, Africa and Europe. It has been a significant area for the communications of eastern and western cultures since ancient times and is closely linked with the Maritime Silk Road. Ayia Napa is an important cultural and tourist city in Cyprus and is blessed with many characteristic performing arts venues such as a Greek amphitheater.
