Turandot, was performed during Guangzhou Opera House’s inauguration, which received an investment of over 10 million yuan. The opera has been locally made after getting its copyright from Spain’s Valencia Opera House. Directed by Lorin Maazel and gathering the world’s leading artists, the show was performed on May 6 - 9, 2010 at Guangzhou Opera House. It attracted a huge audience and was a grand success.

The performance helped fill the blank of the fully staged opera market in South China. In the past, due to not having the correct venue requirements, Guangzhou could only put on concert-style operas.

Guangzhou Opera House built its professional opera producing team, creating its own mode and stepping up its ability in producing quality operas.
